FAQ Graphical (PPP) Access What is PPP? PPP is an acronym, or an abbreviation for Point-to-Point Protocol. Simply, it is a method of tranporting data over through the modem so that you can connect and access the internet. How is PPP different from text access? The Toronto Freenet ("TFN") provides you with a PPP connection so that you can enjoy the internet in full colour. Unlike our text access where you only see letters and numbers, PPP access provides you with full graphical access to use the internet with all the popular software packages, such as Netscape and ICQ. What do I need to access the TFN with PPP? You must first register for an account with the TFN. Next, you will need to setup your computer software to dial and connect with PPP (such as Dial-Up Networking in Windows 95+). After connecting, start up your internet programs and they should be ready to use. How does this affect my time limit? There is no difference if you connect to the TFN via text or PPP. The accumulated time per day you spend connected to the TFN is deducted from your total daily bucket of minutes. What is the phone number for PPP access? The phone number for both text and PPP access is: 416-645-1999. Can my account connect with PPP? Yes. All accounts on the TFN are able to connect via both text and PPP. How do I fix a problem with PPP? If your problem is account related, we'll work with you to solve your connection problem. If your problem is with other internet software, we cannot guarantee any support and suggest you contact the publisher of that software title to seek assistance.
