Connecting the Community
An Overview:

The Toronto FreeNet is this area's access to the Information Highway! It's our electronic link to the "global village", and our opportunity to exchange views, ideas, and other information with each other and with communitites around the world.

The Toronto FreeNet (TFN) is a not-for-profit public information utility that will link the residents of this community with information networks operated by governments, educational institutions, health and social services, and commercial providers. Similar freenets/communitynets are already operating or under development in Halifax, Ottawa, Hamilton, Victoria, Windsor, Niagara-St. Catherines, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Winnipeg and in many other areas across Canada and around the world.

The Toronto FreeNet project has been strongly endorsed by the community. The members of its working groups (over 60 volunteers!) are drawn from many diverse fields.

The TFN is designed to be a diverse resource for a community of more than 2 million residents. Special efforts will be made to attract and provide access by the information disadvantaged, including the physically challenged, the elderly, ethnic and other minority groups.
